Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted and or swollen veins usually found on your legs and feet on the skins surface that can be very visible and undesirable looking for the person who has them. A dark tint is usually related to them in blue or purple in color.
The damaged weak veins and valves can’t be cured so the best way to take care of the problem is to remove the affected ones.
The object of the surgery is to take pressure off the skin veins in the legs or feet, by removing the principal problematic skin veins. Their removal does not affect blood flow because other veins and especially the deeper veins take over this job.
People who have cronic pain on legs and feet, drainage from legs or feet, ulcers, recurrent skin infections and poor healing. Cosmetic reasons are also a big factor for this procedure.
There is not much preparation for Varicose Vein Treatment in particular. However, Varicose Vein treatment may require surgical intervention so we will need to do Pre Operative Tests and a Cardiological Evaluation prior to your surgery/treatment. It’s important that you maintain a healthy lifestyle and have your blood results in balance as well as your heart rate so we can perform the surgery. An 8 hour fast will be necessary before surgery.
The procedure varies from case to case, it also depends on where the leaky and troubled valves are.
The most common procedures are using radiofrequency or laser ablation therapy and energy catheter based procedures.
A small cut is performed and the doctor introduces a very thin tube called a catheter into the vein, the tip of the tube is heated using either recommended procedures, and then proceeds to remove them.
This is an in and out procedure so no overnight stay at hospital is needed.
You will be monitored closely and given antibiotics and pain medication. Most people recover within a few hours and can go home the same day. The use of compression socks will be recommended.
Depending on your type of work you can go back to it in 1 or 2 weeks after surgery.
You will have to consult your doctor for resuming specific work or sport activities such as heavy labor or lifting.
Following are some common after-care instructions:
• Take the prescribed medications like antibiotics and pain medications to alleviate any discomfort.
• Daily showers
• 4 weeks after surgery you can start any physical activity gradually.
• Drink plenty of fluids
• Take adequate rest
• Keep checking up with your doctor
By sending us pictures of your troubled areas, our specialist will determine what type of treatment you will need. However, the final treatment plan will be determined during your physical consultation.
